hi everyone as dr. Sharif in German and today Im going to continue my videos about reinforced concrete design in this video I will be talking about designing or reinforced concrete columns and this is part number one as you know reinforced concrete columns are usually vertical members that support load from slabs directly such like in case of flat plate or flat slab or it takes load from beams and transfer it to the foundation then it goes to the soil okay about loads and columns usually they are primary compression members so most of the columns are supporting completion forces however also they may resist some bending moments so like the first case when you have a column supporting beam symmetrical beams from all sides like as in case of internal columns with same spans from all sides in this case it will be mainly compression force if you have columns as the perimeter as you can see here and you have only been from one side so in this case it is expected that this beam will transf

Are adjustable lally columns code compliant? In fact, the Lally Lock System is the only code-compliant column that does not require welding. Typically, lally columns are installed on top of a footing, and the basement floor is later poured to encapsulate the column.
The steps in the design of reinforced concrete columns are; Determine design life. Assess actions on the column. Determine which combinations of actions apply. Assess durability requirements and determine concrete strength. Check cover requirements for appropriate fire resistance period. Calculate min.
Let us consider column size 300 600 with 1% steel and length 3 meters. Concrete Volume = 0.3 x 0.60 x 3 =0.54m Concrete Weight = 0.54 x 2400 = 1296 kg. Steel Weight (1%) in Concrete = 0.54 x 0.01 x 7850 = 42.39 kg. Total Column Weight = 1296 + 42.39 = 1338.39 kg = 13.384KN.
The design process around how to design a steel column can be broken down into the following steps: Calculating the influence area. Calculating all the loads acting on columns from the influence area. Calculating the cross-sectional area. Checking long/short columns and eccentricity of columns. Determining lateral ties.

Introduction. A column is a vertical structural member intended to transfer a compressive load. For example, a column might transfer loads from a ceiling, floor or roof slab or from a beam, to a floor or foundations.
A column or pillar in architecture and structural engineering is a structural element that transmits, through compression, the weight of the structure above to other structural elements below. In other words, a column is a compression member.
