The phonograph was invented in 1877 by Thomas Edison. Alexander Graham Bells Volta Laboratory made several improvements in the 1880s and introduced the graphophone, including the use of wax-coated cardboard cylinders and a cutting stylus that moved from side to side in a zigzag groove around the record.
Vinyl records dont break easily, but shellac does. If you drop vinyl on the ground it can get damaged but it wont shatter. If you drop shellac it will shatter. In both cases, you wont hear a glass-shattering noise.
In 1890 Emile Berliner, the inventor of the gramophone, introduced flat disc shaped records, the shape being far easier to store and transport than cylinders. Five years later, in 1895, Berliner introduced discs based on shellac a resin secreted by female lac bugs, mixed with clay and cotton fibres.
When the record is played back, another stylus responds to the undulations, and its motions are then reconverted into sound. Though experimental mechanisms of this type appeared as early as 1857, the invention of the phonograph is generally credited to the American inventor Thomas Edison (1877).
Thomas A. Edison (1847-1931) Edisons phonograph was also extraordinary. Not only did it record sounds, it allowed them to be reproduced at will. This was so astounding that the phonograph singularly established Edisons international reputation as a prominent inventor.
noun. : a damaged record that repeats part of a recording over and over again. used figuratively in describing something (such as a statement or experience) that is frequently or tediously repeated. The Devil Rays season of broken dreams has become a broken record.
1860 Phonautograph Is Earliest Known Recording Audio historians have found a sound recording that predates Edisons phonograph by nearly 20 years. The phonautograph was patented in 1857 by Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville; the device recorded images from sounds, tracing squiggles in black soot coating a surface.
idiom. used to say that someone keeps saying the same thing over and over again. I feel like a broken record but I cant stop talking about the loss. He sounds like a broken record.
