What is Rich Text Format (RTF)? Rich Text Format (RTF) is a file format that lets you exchange text files between different word processors in different operating systems (OSes). For example, you can create a file in Microsoft Word and then open it in another word processor, such as Apple Pages or Google Docs.
Try editing rtf files using Microsoft Office Mobile or Microsoft Word app for Android. Both are available on Google Play. Editing rtf files is also possible using Google Docs.
Microsoft has released many security bug fixes related to risks with RTF files. In other words, hackers take advantage of security lapses in Word that are available when RTF files are opened. In 2014 Microsoft took the step of recommending RTFs be blocked as email attachments and provided a tool to do that.
In the Page Navigation pane, right-click the page you want to delete, and then click Delete. If youre in two-page spread view, the Delete Page dialog box will appear. Select the option you want, and then click OK.
The major downside is file size. RTF documents are not compressed so they are much larger than the same document saved in . docx or . odt formats that automatically shrink the file.
You can delete the important. rtf file as this contains only information you should read. If you have read it, feel free to delete it. Do not delete any of the other files in your root.
While RTF is most often used when exchanging documents between different word processing programs or operating systems, you can also use it to transfer documents between different versions of the same word processor.
Word processing software such as Microsoft Word, as well as more basic programs like Microsoft Works or WordPad, will read an RTF file. You can also edit RTF files using your word processors formatting tools.
