Base64 only contains A–Z , a–z , 0–9 , + , / and = . So the list of characters not to be used is: all possible characters minus the ones mentioned above. For special purposes . and _ are possible, too.
data:image/png;base64 tells the browser that the data is inline, is a png image and is in this case base64 encoded. The encoding is needed because png images can contain bytes that are invalid inside a HTML document (or within the HTTP protocol even).
Browser takes the image/png part and knows that the data following it will be the bytes of a png image. It then sees base64, and knows that the next blob will need to be base64 decoded, before it can then be decoded by its png decoder. It converts the base64 string to bytes. It passes those bytes to its png decoder.
Abstract: In many applications and protocols, the number of usable characters is limited. Base64 or other similar algorithms are widely used to encode the binary data into a printable representation. But base64 itself can¿t compress data, contrarily, it inflates the binary data by 33%.
The only advantage to this approach is that you can better secure your images because you can use the database security features. An alternative, and better method is to store the images outside of the database and store only a link to the image file.
3 Answers use a higher base (although you'll need to write the encode/decode manually, and you'll still only be able to get to about base-90 or something, so you won't drastically reduce the size) use a pure binary post body rather than base-anything (this is effectively base-256) have less data. ... use multiple requests.
Base-64 maps 3 bytes (8 x 3 = 24 bits) in 4 characters that span 6-bits (6 x 4 = 24 bits). The result looks something like "TWFuIGlzIGRpc3Rpb...".
Base64 images are primarily used to embed image data within other formats like HTML, CSS, or JSON. By including image data within an HTML document, the browser doesn't need to make an additional web request to fetch the file, since the image is already embedded in the HTML document.
The base64 is a binary to a text encoding scheme that represents binary data in an ASCII string format. base64 is designed to carry data stored in binary format across the channels. It takes any form of data and transforms it into a long string of plain text.
A data image represents how data is organized and represented at different levels within an organization, including at the physical level – how the data might be physically stored – and at the logical level – how the information is presented to applications or computer programs.
