Jeff explains that technically you don't remove footers in Microsoft Word as they are always there. Headers and footers are part of the document, and if they are empty, they won't show up. However, unless completely resized to zero, they are still there. In the Layout tab of Page Setup, you can adjust the distance of headers and footers from the edge of the page. To delete headers and footers, simply remove the content within them by going to View, Header and Footer.
