Nothing happens. If you were thinking, hoping, that it would remove the attachment from the copy of the email in the recipients mailbox, then it doesnt.
And while its impossible to delete attachments from emails natively in Gmail without having to delete the original message itself, its worth deleting obsolete messages with large files attached to save some space.
If you simply want to delete an attachment on your copy of the sent message, you can go into the sent folder, bring up the message and then delete the attachment. However, if you want to delete the attachment that the recipient has received, you are out of luck.
Tap Select at the top-right corner of the screen, then tap the files that you want to delete to select them. Once youve made your selections, tap Delete in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Tap Delete [number of files] Attachments to confirm.
Click in the box to the left of a message to see a selection of options such as Archive, Delete, Mark as unread and Snooze. These option appear to the right of your selected message. Tap the trash can icon to move the email and its attachment(s) to the Trash folder.

The truth is you cannot edit an email once it has been sent. Imagine your email as a letter put into a mailbox. Once the mail is picked up, you are unable to take back the letter.
Tap to open it and once youre there, press on an image to activate selection mode and tap everything you want to trash. When youre done, touch the trash can icon in the top right, and confirm by hitting Delete in the emerging dialog box. You can also bulk delete by selecting files by date.
