Personal Use Firewood Permit Permits are required as they help to track harvesting and communicate important wildfire safety and collection information.
Permits are $20.00 and there is a one permit per household limit.
Everything within a wood, including fallen branches and logs, is the property of the woodland owner. This means removing logs from a wood without consent is considered theft. Make sure you have the consent of the wood owner before you remove any wood. As well as needing consent, be mindful of what you pick up.
Please note that gathering wood for personal use while camping in Oregons state forests is allowed without obtaining a permit. Some general tips for collecting firewood on state forestland: Contact the local district office - You may need a permit. Downed wood and logs only: No cutting standing trees (alive or dead)
If youre looking for a new holiday tradition, you might want to consider cutting down your own Christmas tree. National forests and Bureau of Land Management areas around Utah allow you to do just that with a purchased permit.
Your permit allows you to cut Christmas trees on National Forest land in Montana and Northern Idaho. Do not cut on private land, in wilderness areas, designated campgrounds, or posted timber sales. Please cut your Christmas tree from an overcrowded stand of trees in meadows.
For more information: Visit the Online Forest Product Permits page, call 435-644-1200, or email utknmail@blm.gov. The Salt Lake Field Office also sells tree cutting permits for the Fillmore Field Office and BLM-managed lands in Elko County.
In most parts of Idaho, IDL issues permits to the public to cut firewood on state endowment trust lands for non-commercial purposes. Contact an IDL office for information about firewood cutting permits.
Harmful tree pests that spread on firewood like spongy moth, Asian long-horned beetle, and emerald ash borer could cause irreversible damage if introduced in Montana. As a result, it is against state and/or federal law to bring untreated firewood into Montana from most out-of-state sources.
The 2022 firewood season ended November 30. Firewood permits are available in person at your local Ranger District office. Permits require a state, federal or tribal ID- if contactless method is preferred, new customers must include a photocopy of their ID along with their application form.
