The abbreviation Op. Cit. is used with the authors last name and page number to denote a reference to a work previously cited in your paper. It differs from Ibid in that it refers to a work that does not immediately follow the one just cited.
In Chicago Style, subsequent citations are formatted as shortened notes: The basic structure of the first shortened citation consists of the author(s)s last name(s), the title of the work (usually shortened if more than four words), and the page number(s).
To copy a footnote, follow these steps: Highlight the footnote reference mark in your document. Press Ctrl+C. The footnote reference mark and the associated footnote are copied to the Clipboard. Position the insertion point at the location where you want to copy the footnote. Press Ctrl+V.
The first time a source is cited in your paper, the corresponding note should include all relevant source information. However, to reduce the overall bulk of publications which use footnotes or endnotes, subsequent usage of that source only requires you to use a shortened version of that citation.
To break up footnotes in Word: Open your Word document. Select your footnote. Right-click and press Paragraph. Select the Line and Page Breaks tab. Uncheck the Keep lines together checkbox. Press Set as Default (if desired) and then press OK to save.
For subsequent citations, use a shortened version of the footnote, which includes: Authors last name (for edited works, use the editors last name, but omit the ed. after the name) Shortened form of title (2-4 words; omit initial articles such as A, An, or The from the title) Page number (when available)
You can shorten quotes by removing words from the middle of the quote and adding ellipses to indicate that you have removed some words. Shortening quotes helps the reader focus on the key information. You can remove words that are redundant or irrelevant to the point you are making.
