Welcome back to the hilltop project. In this episode, the family is almost ready to pour the footings. Before the builders are ready to pour the concrete, they must construct step footings on one of the corners of their site, due to the rocky soil. So what Ive done, is dug down to the original grade plus a little bit to get down into firm soil, passed the topsoil. Thats where the root levels, that you can see, are way down, and then I went to the next even full 16 inch increment. That was so that when I added blocks I dont have to cut them vertically. Then I had a little bit of over-dig here just cause that was necessary with the backhoe. Ive added a bulkhead right here. Thatll stop the concrete and form my corner, and then as we go up you see heres a second bulkhead. The bottom of that bulkhead is even with the course below and the top of the bulkhead is even with where the course above will be, and it doesnt look from this perspective, but the top of that bulkhead is even wi

Use a standard circular saw, equipped with a corundum or diamond blade, for small tasks. For slabs, its best to cut through the top inch, then use a sledgehammer to break off the rest. The jagged edge left below the cutting line provides a good rough edge for the new concrete to bond to.
305.5 Pipes Through or Under Footings or Foundation Walls Any pipe that passes under a footing or through a foundation wall shall be provided with a relieving arch, or a pipe sleeve pipe shall be built into the foundation wall. The sleeve shall be two pipe sizes greater than the pipe passing through the wall.
After pouring and finishing the slab, you should wait 24-48 hours before removing concrete forms. You can remove the formwork once the concrete has enough strength to keep it from cracking. Concrete naturally contracts as it cures, so it should pull away from the forms and make them easier to remove.
You can do it, but you may want to check with your local building official for local requirements. The normal way to do this is to core drill through the wall/footing and insert a protective sleeve two standard pipe-sizes bigger than the drain.
Cutting concrete undermines structural integrity: Any time you cut into a slab, you decrease the foundational integrity of the building no matter how close to a perfect cut you make.
The actual process of cutting an opening into a concrete foundation is relatively simple. You will need a very large and powerful saw or a drill and a lot of water, in order to make the cut. Concrete cutting saws are usually large circular saws with diamond blades. There are both wet cut and dry cut concrete saws.
