Use the Pages app to open Microsoft Word documents, the Numbers app to open Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, and the Keynote app to open Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. If you dont have Pages, Numbers, or Keynote on your Mac, you can get them from the App Store.
Instead of you having to manually save those documents in a specific location, smart folders will automatically categorize and display those files. You can even get more specific with smart folders. Say, for instance, you regularly create, save, or open documents that contain the word Recipe.
On your Mac, open an app that lets you create documents. For example, open TextEdit to create a plain text, rich text or HTML document. Click New Document in the Open dialogue, or choose File New.
Create a basic word-processing document To open Pages, click the Pages icon in the Dock, Launchpad, or Application folder. Double-click one of the blank templates in the Basic category. Start typing. Choose File Save (from the File menu at the top of your screen), enter a name, choose a location, then click Save.
Click the Finder icon in the Dock. In the Finder sidebar, click Recents, iCloud Drive, Documents or the folder where the document is located, then double-click the documents icon or name. Note: Before you can open documents in iCloud Drive, you must set up iCloud Drive. See Use iCloud Drive to store documents.
