Field names. Field names are the names you give to the columns in a table. The names should indicate what data is contained in each column. For example, when you create a feature class in ArcCatalog, the table is prepopulated with an Object ID field and a shape field.
Create a name that accurately, clearly, and unambiguously identifies the characteristic a field represents. Use the minimum number of words necessary to convey the meaning of the characteristic the field represents. Do not use acronyms, and use abbreviations judiciously.
A field name should be descriptive enough to identify the purpose of the field, without being overly long to prevent excessive typing. Enter the field name by placing the pointer in the first row of the Table Design window under the Field Name column.
Definition: Custom field A custom field is used to associate values other than the title, excerpt or content to an article or page. WordPress stores this information as metadata. There are many examples of how to use these custom fields: The name of a client in a portfolio.
You must follow these rules when creating field names: Valid characters include uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet, numeric characters 0 through 9, and the period character. Field names must begin with a letter of the alphabet. Spaces and all other special characters are not permitted.
