Select the cell in the worksheet where you want the drop-down list. Go to the Data tab on the Ribbon, then select Data Validation. On the Settings tab, in the Allow box, select List. If its OK for people to leave the cell empty, check the Ignore blank box.

This will open the Custom Field Dialog box, which is shown below. In the Field section, make sure Task is selected on the left hand side, and Text is selected on the right.

Step 1: Open the Word document where you want to add the drop-down list. Step 2: Click the Developer tab. If you dont see this tab, go to File Options Customize Ribbon and check the Developer box. Step 3: In the Controls group, click the Drop-Down List Content Control button.
Under Insert controls, click Drop-Down List Box. If you cleared the Automatically create data source check box in step 3, select a field in the Drop-Down List Box Binding dialog box to which you want to bind the list box.

Navigate to the area in your document where you want to add the new drop-down list. Go to the Developer tab. Click the Drop-Down List Content Control button to insert a new control.
