Dan introduces a Notepad++ alternative for Mac OS in this video tutorial. Notepad++ is not available for Mac, so Dan struggled to find a replacement editor that offered simplicity and the ability to select syntax from multiple languages without having to save the file first. After months of searching, he found an editor that met his needs. Many code editors require creating a file, naming it, choosing a location, and managing projects, but the alternative Dan found allows for quick and easy note-taking without those extra steps. To use alt codes on Mac computers, use the Option key instead of the Alt key. Option codes for accented letters, symbols, and special characters work differently on Mac computers, as you press Option, the accent, then the letter. For example, to create an n with a tilde, the alt code is Option+n.
Select multiple items: Press and hold the Command key, then click the items (they dont need to be next to each other). Select multiple items that are adjacent: Click the first item, then press the Shift key and click the last item. All items in between are included in the selection.
The Alt key, short for Alternate key, refers to the key found on computer keyboards on either side of the spacebar, typically labeled Alt. The Alt key is a modifier key that, when pressed with other keys, performs various functions and commands on your computer.
The Option key in a Mac operating system functions differently from the Alt key under other Unix-like systems or Microsoft Windows. It is not used to access menus or hotkeys but is instead used as a modifier for other command codes, as well as to provide easier access to various accents and symbols.
The Alt key on the Mac is also called Option and sits next to the Command key. There are two of them, one on either side of the spacebar.
