Contract numbers are automatically generated by prefixing the person number with CONT. For example, if the person number is 17040, the contract number would be CONT17040. Subsequent contracts of the assignment would have suffix numbers, for example CONT17040-2, CONT17040-3.
Section numbering. Do not place the word Section in front of each section number. You can number sections consecutively (i.e. 1., 2., 3. or (1), (2), (3)) or you can number the articles and sections using a multiple-numeration system (i.e. the sections of article 2 being numbered 2.1, 2.2, 2.3).
It is a common practice to number provisions in some way, in particular to make reference from one to another easier. But not all contracts include such internal references.
The Chicago Manual of Style, The Bluebook and the ALWD Guide to Legal Citation all suggest spelling out numbers from zero to ninety-nine. The Oregon Appellate Courts Style Manual says to spell out numbers from zero to nine (as does the Bulletin), and Chicago recognizes this alternative as popular in some publications.
2) Use words for simple figures from one to ten. Use figures for numerals from 11 upwards and for all figures that include a decimal point or a fraction. Examples: One, seven, 14, 975 and 6,650.
It is a good idea to insert page numbers on each page of a contract. Using a format that includes the total number of pages (i.e. Page 1 of 10) is the best way to ensure you have all pages when you review a business contract.
5.2 NUMBERS The general rule is that all numbers ten and below should be spelled out and numbers 11 and above should be put in numerals. However, there are certain exceptions to this: If numbers recur through the text or are being used for calculations, then numerals should be used.
