Change a workbook password On the Review tab, under Protection, click Passwords. In the Password to open box or Password to modify box, select all contents. Type the new password, and then click OK. In the Confirm Password dialog box, type the password again, and then click OK.
Verify that the CAPS LOCK key is off and be sure to use the correct capitalization or not. If you think your password is right, make sure no one has access to your file and changed the password.
Unprotect an Excel worksheet To unprotect a sheet, follow these steps: Go to the worksheet you want to unprotect. Go to File Info Protect Unprotect Sheet, or from the Review tab Changes Unprotect Sheet.
Unfortunately, if this has happened to you, there is no simple and easy way to recover a lost password. Excel doesnt store the passwords you use to lock your spreadsheet nor can Microsoft can look them up for you. This is also true for the other software in the Office suite that lets you protect files.
So if you open a spreadsheet that you know doesnt have a password, yet you get a screen like this, it means that Excel is trying to link to and get information out of a spreadsheet that is password protected. If it is purposeful then you need to get the password and work with it.
1. Repair Damaged Excel Files with the Open and Repair Method Select the Microsoft Office tab. Click the Open button. Choose the corrupt files when the Open dialog box appears. Click the arrow, then choose Open and Repair. Select the Repair option.
