In the trucking industry, these terms are used interchangeably, so if someone says you need a USDOT number, they are saying you need a DOT number. A USDOT number example would be USDOT1523020, and this number would likely be printed on every truck in the fleet belonging to the company.
Keep both eyes open to judge the distance between you and the target. Bring your gun to a comfortable position so you can see through the lens. Youll see the red dot on your proper sight picture. Your dominant eye will see the red dot sight when the sight moves to its front side.
A true red dot sight is a reflex sight enclosed in a tube. They offer a brighter reticle than open sights and open reflex sights provide a wider field of view and unlimited eye relief. Open sights are better for faster target acquisition and are more comfortable for aiming with both eyes open.
As a general rule of thumb, you want to mount your 1x red dot optic as far forward as you can. Mounting your red dot as far forward as possible on the receiver will maximize your peripheral view and situational awareness.
With red dot sights, regardless of whether its on a handgun or rifle, the shooter is supposed to keep both eyes open and focus on the target.
Why shoot with both eyes open? Firing your gun with two eyes open is a useful tool to have available to you in life threatening situations. This style of shooting will help you to stay aware of your surroundings and keep a view of whats going on around you, especially in your peripherals.
Use the distance to your target as one number. Most veteran shooters will use 100 yards as a reference, because one click of adjustment in an MOA red dot scope is usually per 100 yards. The Minute of Angle, or MOA, is the time it will take your bullet to impact.
As a general rule of thumb, you want to mount your 1x red dot optic as far forward as you can. Mounting your red dot as far forward as possible on the receiver will maximize your peripheral view and situational awareness.
It really doesnt matter whether you shoot with one eye open or both. Most shooting instructors will tell you that you should do what feels natural and gives you the best results. If youve started with one eye closed, it may be worth trying to learn how to shoot with both eyes open.
A red dot sight is simply an LED shining a beam of light onto a specially coated, slightly angled piece of glass. That That glass reflects the LEDs light, creating your dot. This allows you to see your reticle and see through your optic, but someone on the other side of the optic cannot see your reticle.
