Although the file is defined as Comma Separated Values, the delimiter could be anything. The most common delimiters are: a comma (,), a semicolon (;), a tab (\t), a space ( ) and a pipe (|).
Common issues with importing a CSV (and the work-arounds to fix them) The most common CSV import errors include: The file size is too large - The CSV import tool of the program youre using might have a file size requirement. To reduce the file size, you can delete unnecessary data values, columns, and rows.
Using the From Text feature in Excel Open the Excel file that youre trying to change in terms of data formatting. Click the Data tab, then From Text. Select the CSV file that has the data clustered into one column. Select Delimited, then make sure the File Origin is Unicode UTF-8.
CSV is a delimited data format that has fields/columns separated by the comma character and records/rows terminated by newlines. A CSV file does not require a specific character encoding, byte order, or line terminator format (some software do not support all line-end variations).
