Trace cells that provide data to a formula (precedents) Select the cell that contains the formula for which you want to find precedent cells. To display a tracer arrow to each cell that directly provides data to the active cell, on the Formulas tab, in the Formula Auditing group, click Trace Precedents .
On the Formulas tab, in the Defined Names group, click Name Manager. Check each entry in the list, and look in the Refers To column for external references. External references contain a reference to another workbook, such as [Budget.xlsx].
Use Copy and Paste Link to automatically transfer data from one Excel worksheet to another Open two spreadsheets containing the same simple dataset. In sheet 1, select a cell and type Ctrl + C / Cmd + C to copy it. In sheet 2, right-click on the equivalent cell and go to the Paste Link.
To pull data from another sheet by using cell references in Excel: Click in the cell where you want the pulled data to appear. Type = (equals sign) followed by the name of the sheet you want to pull data from. Type ! Press Enter. The value from your other sheet will now appear in the cell.
Go to Formulas tab Formulas Auditing Trace Dependents. Click on the Trace Dependents button to see the cells that are affected by the active cell. It will show a blue arrow that links the active cell and the other cells related to the selected cell.
Copy a formula by dragging the fill handle Select the cell that has the formula you want to fill into adjacent cells. Rest your cursor in the lower-right corner so that it turns into a plus sign (+), like this: Drag the fill handle down, up, or across the cells that you want to fill.
If only one file has such problem, ing to our tests, if we protected the worksheet, the trace dependents/ precedents function are greyed out, so we suggest you go to Review tab, check if you have protect sheet or workbook, if so, you can click Unprotect Sheet or Unprotect Workbook.
To find out which cells/formulas refer to (are dependent on) your currently selected cell, click on the Formulas tab, then click the Trace Dependents button. Blue arrows will be drawn from the current cell to any cell on the same tab of the workbook that contains a formula that points to your selected cell.
