Lets talk about Excel Comments and how we can work with them better and faster. And then were gonna get into the fun part, which is how can we customize the comment background and how we can use icons as our comments. Just a note, Microsoft recently announced a new feature called Threaded comments. This means you can reply to one another in Excel, and you can keep track of it, and they still kept the existing comment feature though, thankfully. But this resulted in a change in feature names. So, what me and you know as an Excel comment is gonna be called an Excel note. The new comments have a Reply box, which is actually another great feature of Office 365. So, in this video, Ill be talking about what will be known as notes in the future, and comments for now. So, lets jump in. Microsoft Excel, included in the Office 365 suite, makes it simple to turn nearly any data into an Excel spreadsheet with the snap of a photo.
Copy threaded comments or notes to other cells Select the cell or cells that contain the comments that you want to copy. Press Ctrl+C. On the Home tab, click the arrow below Paste, and then click Paste Special. In the Paste Special dialog box, under Paste, click Comments, and then click OK.
Click the cell where you want to put the data from the text file. On the Data tab, in the Get External Data group, click From Text. In the Import Data dialog box, locate and double-click the text file that you want to import, and click Import.
Save the text file to a folder on your computer. Open Microsoft Excel 2. Select File Open 3. In the Text Import Wizard Step 1 of 3 Pop-Up Box, choose Delimited. Click Next. In the Text Import Wizard Step 3 of 3 Pop-Up Box, keep all fields the same. Click Finish.
Select the cell(s) from which you want to copy the comments and press Ctrl + C to copy those cells. Select the destination cell, or the upper-left cell of the target range. Press the paste special shortcut (Ctrl + Alt + V), and then press C to paste only comments. Press the Enter key.
To paste the range into a comment, simply insert the comment where you want (or choose to edit an existing comment) and then click the range in the Office Clipboard pane. It is placed exactly where you want itin the comment.
Use Copy and Paste Link to automatically transfer data from one Excel worksheet to another Open two spreadsheets containing the same simple dataset. In sheet 1, select a cell and type Ctrl + C / Cmd + C to copy it. In sheet 2, right-click on the equivalent cell and go to the Paste Link.
Select the cells that contain the data or other attributes that you want to copy. Click the first cell in the area where you want to paste what you copied. On the Home tab, under Edit, click Paste, and then click Paste Special. Paste all cell contents and formatting, including linked data.
Moving and copying sheets are not allowed in protected workbooks. To check if the workbook is protected, go to the Review tab Protect group and have a look at the Protect Workbook button. If the button is highlighted, it means the workbook is protected. Click that button to unlock the workbook, and then move sheets.
First, you need to save the comments on a different range. For instance, copy the range of those cells with comments (e.g., a row or column) and paste it somewhere else. Copy the value you want to paste. Press Alt and then E and then S. New form will open same as the screenshot. Select Value and hit Ok.
