3. Click the File tab again and click Print in the list to open a new Print menu.
(You can click Control + P, or File Print.) Under Printer, Select Microsoft Print to PDF. Click Print to save a copy of the RTF file as a PDF on your computer.
RTF (Rich Text Format) files arent designed to carry any computer code / macros that can be run to start a virus infection. So they would seem to be safe from virus infection. Sadly, not having macros doesnt stop hackers using RTFs maliciously. RTF documents can still be used to compromise a computer.
Microsoft discontinued the development of RTF in 2008, but its still widely supported by apps on almost every operating system.
But for the most part, RTF files are an excellent way to transfer documents between different word processing programs or operating systems. You can easily convert RTF files to PDF files online with Acrobat online services. The resulting PDF will retain the original RTF files formatting.
As you might expect, word processing applications may have trouble opening files with different formats. To solve the problem, save your file as Rich Text Format (. rtf). RTF is a universal format that is available in most, if not all, word processing applications.
Try editing rtf files using Microsoft Office Mobile or Microsoft Word app for Android. Both are available on Google Play. Editing rtf files is also possible using Google Docs.
The major downside is file size. RTF documents are not compressed so they are much larger than the same document saved in . docx or . odt formats that automatically shrink the file.
