An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a nine-digit number that IRS assigns in the following format: XX-X. It is used to identify the tax accounts of em- ployers and certain others who have no employees.
Copies can be requested online (search Forms and Publications) or by calling 800-TAX-FORM.
You can directly access the online IRS application to find your EIN number. The online database search can be conducted using specific parameters like the company name, state, and city of operations.
Ask the IRS to search for your EIN by calling the Business Specialty Tax Line at 800-829-4933. The hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday.
Can I look up an EIN number? The IRS doesnt provide a public database you can use to look up EIN numbers for your own company or others.
