I save Word documents as PDF files regularly by opening the document up in Word (Office 365), then selecting File Clicking Save As Then clicking the drop-down file type selector to Select PDF (*. pdf) Then Click the Save button. I hope this helps you out.

Reduce the size when saving from Microsoft Word Open the Word document that you want to save as a PDF file. Select File on the toolbar. Choose Save As. Select PDF as the file type. Enter the file name. Find the Optimize For option. Select Minimum Size (Publishing Online). Click Save.
