Mac Preview does not have a built-in OCR feature for text recognition in scanned documents or image-based PDFs. It can handle basic interactions with text within images using Live Text, but this is not the same as full OCR functionality.
Open the PDF document using a PDF reader, such as docHub Reader. Select the text you want to extract by dragging your mouse cursor over the desired area. Right-click on the selected text and choose the Copy option. Open a text editor or word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Google Docs).

The PDF may require a password before you can select or copy text: Choose Tools Show Inspector, click the Encryption Inspector button , then enter the password.
