PDF/A files are generally searchable, unless the file was created from a scanned paper document or image. In the case of scanned documents, OCR can be used to create searchable text.
Head to Tools and open Scan OCR. Choose from Recognize Text, Correct Recognized Text, or Optimized Scanned Pages. Click on PDF Output Style Searchable Image. Select OK.
If you do not see a column of buttons on the right go to the View menu Show/Hide (3) Once the document opens select the Recognize Text button above the document. Then select the recognize Text button. The text within the pdf will now be searchable.
