Home security cameras come in a range of different resolutions depending on your needs and your budget. The most common ones you will see on the market include 2MP (1080p), 4MP (1440p), 5MP (1920p) and 8MP (4K/2160P).
4K is defined as a 3840 2160 resolution video, with quadruple the number of pixels (detail) compared to full 1080p HD video. In video surveillance, 4K gives you more ability to see details such as faces at a farther distance compared to the same image using a 1080p camera.
4Ksurveillance is the latest offering in the world of HD video surveillance cameras. The 4K label on a camera means that the device will record images at a level of about 12 megapixels or video at double the resolution of a standard HD TV (1920 x 1080).
The 5MP security cameras have better clarity than the low megapixel cameras, thanks to their improved resolution. For example, the 5MP IP camera is sure to be at least twice clearer than the 2MP (1080p) ones.

As a general rule of thumb, the higher the resolution, the better the overall quality of the image. 4K security cameras offer superior image quality compared to 2K security cameras. With a higher resolution of 3840x2160 and at 8 megapixels, these cameras are currently the very high end of surveillance video quality.
At present, 4K is the highest resolution supported by mainstream security cameras on the market. There are IP and coaxial (wired) cameras that support 4K.
Often referred to as full HD, 1080 (1920 x 1080 pixels) has become the industry standard for a crisp HD digital video that doesnt break your storage space. This is also a common screen resolution for smartphones.
4K analog cameras are also ideally suited to cover large fields of view such as in sports stadiums or airports with great detail and accurate color reproduction.
The zoomed image of 5MP and 4K is clear and detailed, yet the 4k allows to see even more details given its deeper zoom. When it comes to resolution, 4K camera covers a 1.5 larger area than the 5MP one. Lets dive in: 4K Ultra HD security cameras possess a high resolution of 3840*2160 with over 8 million pixels.
