Hi, Im Rob. Welcome to Math Antics. In the last two Algebra videos, we learned how to solve simple equations that had only one arithmetic operation in them. But often, equations have many different operations which makes solving them a little more complicated. In this video, were going to learn how to solve equations that have just two math operations in them. one addition or subtraction operation, and one multiplication or division operation. And the concepts you learn in this video will help you solve even more complicated equations in the future. Now as you might expect, equations that have two arithmetic operations in them are going to require two different steps to solve them. In other words, to get the unknown all by itself, youll need to undo two operations. But that doesnt sound too hard, right? I mean we learned how to do undo any arithmetic operation in the last two videos. And thats true. But there are a couple of reason that make two-step equations a little trick

We have 4 ways of solving one-step equations: Adding, Substracting, multiplication and division. If we add the same number to both sides of an equation, both sides will remain equal.
How Do You use 3 Steps in Solving an Equation? remove the brackets, if any using the distributive property, simplify the equation by adding or subtracting the like terms, isolating the variable and solving it.
In order to form and solve equations: Write the situation using algebra. Use the information to make the algebraic equation. Solve the equation. Write down the answer.
Numbering The equation numbers should be enclosed by parentheses and placed at the right-hand side of the page. If you are referring to an equation in the text, use eq. (3) (or other abbreviations). If it is the first word in a sentence, capitalize it, i.e., Eq. (3).
A mathematical formula is an equation expressing one variable as a combination of other variable(s) using algebraic operations such as add, subtract, multiply, divide, raise to a power, take the natural logarithm or take the cosine, or some combination of operations.
The Pythagorean Theorem This theorem is foundational to our understanding of geometry. It describes the relationship between the sides of a right triangle on a flat plane: square the lengths of the short sides, a and b, add those together, and you get the square of the length of the long side, c.
Usually an equation is followed by a comma after it is presented (especially when followed by descriptions of its individual members) or by a period if the sentence has ended. Some journals do not follow the equation with any punctuation marks, relying on the wording of the sentence alone to carry the meaning.
Determine what the question is asking. Write down the relevant information in simple statements. Assign symbols to unknown values that need to be found. Determine how the statements relate to each other mathematically.
Equations should be referenced within the text as Eq. (x). When the reference to an equation begins a sentence, it should be spelled out, e.g., Equation (x). Formulas and equations should be created to clearly distinguish capital letters from lowercase letters.
