On the Data tab, under Tools, click Consolidate. In the Function box, click the function that you want Excel to use to consolidate the data. In each source sheet, select your data, and then click Add. The file path is entered in All references.
To join first and last name by merging cells, heres what you do: Select the two columns of names you want to combine. On the Ablebits tab, in the Merge group, click the Merge Cells drop-down arrow, and choose Merge Columns into One: The Merge Cells dialog box will show up. Click the Merge button.

For example, in a budgeting scenario, Excel may be used to collect budget data for several departments and then consolidate the data into one overall group or company budget. Data consolidation is a tool within Excel that allows you to gather data from other workbooks and to consolidate them into one workbook.
Click DataConsolidate (in the Data Tools group). In the Function box, click the summary function that you want Excel to use to consolidate the data. The default function is SUM. Select your data.
Lets say you want to create a single Full Name column by combining two other columns, First Name and Last Name. To combine first and last names, use the CONCATENATE function or the ampersand () operator.
Consolidate is an inbuilt function in Excel used to consolidate data from different workbooks opened simultaneously. This function is present in the Data tab. It allows us to select multiple data from other workbooks and consolidate them in a final workbook.
Select the cell containing the last name (B2). In our example, your formula should now be: =CONCATENATE (A2, ,B2). 10. Press the Return Key.
