With the blank document open, go first to Layout. Then, on the Margins dropdown menu, select Normal for 1-inch margins on all sides, top, bottom, left, and right. Next, lets set alignment and line spacing by clicking on the Home tab. Then in the Paragraph grouping, select Align Left. Move your cursor over to the spacing tools dropdown menu and select 2.0 for double spacing. Now lets set our indentation for the first line of a paragraph. Click on the Paragraph dialog box launcher arrow. In the box that appears, under Special select First Line and make sure the number is 0.5 or half inch. Use the Footnotes pull-down menu and select Footnotes Separator. Then Right Click on the bar and choose Paragraph from the contextual menu that displays. Check/adjust the Spacing Before and After settings for the Footnote Separator in this dialog where I have highlighted.
The footnote contains the number of the citation followed by a period and then the citation itself. The citation always includes the authors name and the title of the text, and it always ends with a period. Full notes also include all the relevant publication information in parentheses (which varies by source type).
The footnote citation at the bottom of the page should have the number, and it should also be in superscript. For the note itself, use the same font as the rest of your paper but in a smaller size. For example, if your paper is written in 12 pt. font, then your footnote should be in 10 pt.
Remove or change a footnote or endnote separator The Footnotes pane appears at the bottom of your document. You can edit the color or style of the separator by choosing options on the Home tab, or, to delete the separators, click Footnote Separator in the Footnotes list, and then select and delete the separator line.
Footnotes should be in 10 pt. Times or closest comparable font available, they should be single spaced, and there should be a footnote separator rule (line). Footnote numbers or symbols in the text must follow, rather than precede, punctuation. Excessively long footnotes are probably better handled in an appendix.
Leave no space between the superscript (note number) in the text and the word or mark of punctuation it follows. Place the superscript before a dash but after all other marks of punctuation. Indent the first line of each note 5-8 spaces (depending on indentation you are using for paragraphs in the text).
First I suggest you click Expansion arrow of Footnotes group choose Below text for Footnotes Apply. Then chose the last line of main text Right click, select Paragraph In the Paragraph dialog box, click the Indents and Spacing tab, and make sure that Spacing After is set to zero.
Using footnotes or endnotes involves placing a superscript number at the end of a sentence with information (paraphrase, quotation or data) that you wish to cite. The superscript numbers should generally be placed at the end of the sentence to which they refer.
Use a sans serif font with a type size between 8 and 14 points. When presenting computer code. Use a monospace font, such as 10-point Lucida Console or 10-point Courier New. When presenting a footnote in a page footer.
