in our series of previous videos weve built this user interface complete with the drop-down that shows specimens that we have created and were able to store those specimens into firebase and were able to update those specimens in firebase as of the last video the trick now is we dont have a good way to create a new specimen so in this video im going to add a new option to this drop down or spinner that allows us to create a new specimen and also im going to do a bit of refactoring that ive wanted to do for a little while so lets jump right in and get started first of all one minor thing is that i have this selected specimen which is whatever specimen were currently working on in my user interface activity class and really state doesnt belong in our activity class it belongs in the view model so im going to cut this and im going to put it into our main view model in doing so im going to need to remove the private access modifier because i know i want to access this from my
