The items of a bulleted list must be of the same type. If your list items are sentences, they must be all sentences. If they are phrases, they must be all phrases. If they are single words, they must be all single words.
Choose a new bullet or numbering format On the Home tab, under Paragraph, click the arrow next to Bullets or Numbering. Click the bullet or numbering list format that you want in the Bullet Library or the Numbering Library.
Bullet points use three important markers to determine where the bullet and the text will appear. First Line Indent - This is the distance from the left margin to the bullet and indicates if there is any indentation. All the built-in bullet formats are indented by 0.63cm.
All bullet points should be aligned at the same indent, be the same size, and be the same font.
To start a numbered list, type 1, a period (.), a space, and some text. Word will automatically start a numbered list for you. Type* and a space before your text, and Word will make a bulleted list. To complete your list, press Enter until the bullets or numbering switch off.
Click Bullet, and then click the bullet style that you want. Click Font, and then in the Font color list, click the color that you want. Click Font, and then in the Size list, enter the size that you want.
The text that is used to introduce a section of bullet points should end in a colon. When the information provided in bullet points is a complete sentence, it should begin with a capital letter and end with proper punctuation. Bullet points do not necessarily have to be complete sentences.
In bulleted lists, each paragraph begins with a bullet character. In numbered lists, each paragraph begins with an expression that includes a number or letter and a separator such as a period or parenthesis. The numbers in a numbered list are updated automatically when you add or remove paragraphs in the list.
Change bullet indents Select the bullets in the list by clicking a bullet. Right-click, and then click Adjust List Indents.
How to use bullet points Make sure all items in the list are related to each other. Use the same font and margin width in each bulleted point. Keep bullet points short, preferably no more than three lines long. Begin all items with the same part of speech (active verbs work well) and make sure they are in parallel form.
