In the mid-1980s, when fax machines first caught the attention of small companies, many buyers chose stripped-down machines because that was all they could afford. Fax machines that did little more than perform basic functions cost $2,500 to $3,000.
Do You Put a 1 Before a Fax Number? Faxes use the same network as voice calls. That means you may not need to add a 1 before the fax number when sending a fax to a recipient within your area code. However, if you send a fax long distance, youll likely need to add the 1 before the area code prefix.
Generally, a fax confirmation page is a one-page summary of the time, date, pages, and the recipients fax number. Most fax machines, by default, print out this confirmation, but if not, you should check your machine to activate it.
The first fax machine was invented by a brilliant Scottish clockmaker named Alexander Bain who sent the worlds first picture-by-wire using analog telegraph technology in 1842.
