okay here we go I wanna spend a little bit time talking about the settlement truck that you guys did so Im not going to go through every single box on here but I am going to talk about a few of the things I think are really important here so first lets look at the French and the Dutch here you know to compare these as you go along and you see a lot of similarities for example you see like they establish trading posts both the French and the Dutch they both came for economic reasons particularly with fur trading and then when we look on the backside you can see that within their interaction with the natives was pretty peaceful mostly like a trading relationship although the French did also intermarrying you dont see a lot of converting of natives to Christianity or anything like that its a much more peaceful relationship then with say the English and the Spanish okay lets go back to the front side we go through the Spanish here a little bit we talked about them a little bit in cla

Immediate settlement of cohesive soils is given by S i = q B ( 1 2 E s ) S i = H C log e 0 + 0. S i = E s ( 1 2 ) I q B. S i = C H log e 0 + 0.
Total settlement is the magnitude of downward movement. Differential settlement is non-uniform settlement. It is the difference of settlement between various locations of the structure.
How much foundation settlement is too much? The industry standard is 1 inch of differential settlement in 20 feet. Anything greater than this can be considered too much.
Primary consolidation settlement rc occurs in cohesive or compressible soil during dissipation of excess pore fluid pressure, and it is controlled by the gradual expulsion of fluid from voids in the soil leading to the associated compression of the soil skeleton.
What is Settlement? Settlement is the downward movement of the ground (soil) when a load is applied to it. The load increases the vertical effective stress exerted onto the soil. This stress, in turn, increases the vertical strain in the soil. This increase in vertical strain causes the ground to move downward.
The settlement amount is calculated by adding back the accrued interest on the clean price and then multiplying by the face value.
Different from immediate settlement, consolidation settlement occurs as the result of volumetric com- pression within the soil. For granular soils, the consolidation process is sufficiently rapid that consolida- tion settlement is generally included with immediate settlement.
The consolidation process of peaty soil can be divided into three stages. The primary and secondary consolidation are mainly drainage consolidation. The compression caused by decomposition mainly occurs in the third stage. The tertiary consolidation stage is independent of permeability change.
The rate of settlement of a saturated soil is expressed by the coefficient of consolidation (cv). The rate of settlement of a soil, and hence the value of cv, is governed by two factors: the amount of water to be squeezed out of the soil; and the rate at which that water can flow out.
When soil is loaded undrained, the pore pressures increase. Then, under site conditions, the excess pore pressures dissipate and water leaves the soil, resulting in consolidation settlement. This process takes time, and the rate of settlement decreases over time.
