whats going on everybody welcome back to the excel tutorial series today we will be looking at how to clean data in excel [Music] now knowing how to clean data in excel is actually extremely useful there are a ton of techniques to do this im going to be showing you the ones that i probably use the most i feel like are the most helpful to kind of do the bulk or the majority of the data cleaning that youre going to do in excel like i said theres so many different ways and very specific things that you can do but im going to highlight some of the bigger ones that i find the most useful and some of you may be thinking well ill just do my data cleaning in sql or python or when i get it ready to put it in tableau but honestly a lot of the data cleaning at least a lot of the big stuff i tend to do in excel if the data set is small enough to fit in excel and so i think its actually really really useful to know how to do this because youll most likely be doing it more than you think now

Trim Spaces for Excel - remove extra spaces in a click Select the cell(s) where you want to delete spaces. Click the Trim Spaces button on the ribbon. Choose one or all of the following options: Trim leading and trailing spaces. Trim extra spaces between words, except for a single space. Click Trim.
Removes all nonprintable characters from text. Use CLEAN on text imported from other applications that contains characters that may not print with your operating system. For example, you can use CLEAN to remove some low-level computer code that is frequently at the beginning and end of data files and cannot be printed.
The TRIM function is premade in Excel and used to remove irregular text spacing and keep single spaces between words. Note: Irregular spacing is unnecessary spacing within the dataset that can occur before, after or between text or numbers within a cell.
The TRIM function corrects irregular spacing by removing all spaces from text except for single spaces between words. The nested CLEAN function in the formula removes all non-printable characters from the text.
Select the home option and go to the editing group in the ribbon. The clear option is available in the group, as shown below. Select the clear option and click on the clear formats option.
