so again my name is Kevin wolf Im the branch chief of the classification section over at the CPAC Joan Conlon shes one of my senior classifiers and just a little background on classification in the army and in the past and still in the future its kind of handled differently everywhere you go and and in some places HR just doesnt know what to do with it they try to combine it with other HR disciplines like staffing recruitment placement but really by doing that it doesnt get the attention it needs and what will happen is a lot of times when you have the same HR person doing your announcement and your certificate and bringing the employee on classification becomes a the lowest priority and then they end up getting pressured time constraints and they just kind of pencil with it so were finding that we shouldnt group it up together and make it a generalist function it should be more of a specialized expertise function so thats what we did here at our CPAC we grouped it all togethe

Libraries use classification systems to organize the books on the shelves. A classification system uses letters and/or numbers (call numbers) to arrange the books so that books on the same topic are together.
The Dewey Decimal Classification System is the most widely used method for classifying books in the library. This system is a general knowledge organization tool that is continuously revised to keep pace with knowledge. It is named after Melvil Dewey, an American Librarian who developed it in 1876.
The Dewey Decimal system is a classification system used by libraries to arrange books via subject. Each book is issued a shelfmark number, usually found on the spine of the book, and arranged in numerical order.
Classification provides a logical approach to the arrangement of documentary materials. Use of classification enables library users to browse on shelves to find its materials and also additional items on the same or related subjects, and, to find out what documents the library has on a certain subject.
There are 10 main Dewey Decimal call number classifications or classes: 000Computer Science, Information, General Works. 100Philosophy Psychology. 200Religion.
Use DDC tables in WebDewey Provide notation used to build specific class numbers. To a DDC number defined or provided for in the schedules, the classifier adds table notation to represent a subdivision of the class. Serve only to extend schedule numbers; cannot be used alone to classify an item.
The Dewey system has ten main classes, which are listed below. 000 Generalities. 100 Philosophy and Psychology. 200 Religion. 300 Social Science. 400 Language. 500 Natural Science and Mathematics. 600 Technology (Applied Sciences) 700 Arts.
In the Dewey Decimal System, books are filed digit by digit, not by whole number. This means, for example, that our book at 595.789/BROC would come after 595.0123 and before 595.9. In our collection, Biographies do not use the 921 Dewey number, but rather the letter B for biography.

Do they still use the Dewey Decimal System? Dewey is still by far the most used book organization system in the world. More than 200,000 libraries in 135 countries currently use the system, ing to estimates reported by the Chicago Tribune.
