Yes. A permit system for Hot Work is required by the State Fire Prevention Code and OSHA.
Building permits are issued at the local level in New Jersey so you will need to file your permit application with the Building Department in the town or city where youll be doing the work. In order for your permit to be issued, your project will need to meet all state and local building codes and regulations.
There are seven main types of work permits: Hot Work Permits, Cold Work Permits, Confined Spaces Work Permits, Chemical Work Permits, Height Work Permit, and Excavation Permit.
Employers have the responsibility to provide a safe and healthful workplace that is free from serious recognized hazards. This is commonly known as the General Duty Clause of the OSH Act. OSHA standards are rules that describe the methods that employers must use to protect their employees from hazards.
Not later than 20 business days after the submission of a complete application, the permit application must be released or denied. Construction work may begin when the construction permit is issued.
The California Code of Regulations (CCR), title 8, section 341 and section 341.1 require employers to obtain Project Permits and Annual Permits from Cal/OSHA before conducting certain construction activities.
