Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) is an open standard that operating systems can use to discover and configure computer hardware components, to perform power management (e.g. putting unused hardware components to sleep), auto configuration (e.g. Plug and Play and hot swapping), and status monitoring.
ACPI is designed to allow the operating system to control the amount of power provided to each device or peripheral attached to the computer system.
Disable Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery (Laptops only) Click the Windows Start Button, type Device Manager, and press Enter. In the Device Manager window, and double-click on Batteries. Right-Click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and choose Disable. Close the Device Manager window.
If disabled, ACPI support will be disabled on the motherboard chipset level. Even if the operating system supports ACPI, it cannot use ACPI to configure the hardware or control its power management features. It is recommended that you enable this BIOS feature.
The integrated power management features supported by Microsoft Windows operating systems are available only on computers that have an Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) BIOS. Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000 require that an ACPI BIOS be dated January 1, 1999 or later.
If youre on a desktop then there isnt an inherent danger to keeping ACPI off. Some components such as your SSD or CPU may have their lifetimes impacted, but not by noticeable amounts. Again, the biggest issues on a desktop are power consumption. I recommend testing out disabling ACPI .
ACPI refers to a device control and power management specification developed by Dell, HP, Intel, Microsoft, Phoenix, Toshiba, and Dell. The ACPI specification allows an operating system to communicate with, and to control the power distribution to peripherals such as hard drives.
Also note that disabling ACPI mode may cause your computer to not power off when you perform a Windows shutdown. Simply push the power button after performing a shutdown. Reversing this step re-enabling ACPI can be as simple as repeating this step and choosing ACPI-compliant PC instead of Standard.
If disabled, ACPI support will be disabled on the motherboard chipset level. Even if the operating system supports ACPI, it cannot use ACPI to configure the hardware or control its power management features. It is recommended that you enable this BIOS feature.
ACPI provides a standardized, operating system-agnostic description of a computers configuration and its various components. This enables an operating system to enquire and adapt itself to the systems properties, and to associate drivers with its system peripherals.
