Footnotes and Endnotes are, by default, separated from the body of the text by a short horizontal line known as the Footnote or Endnote Separator. This can be customised but you must have at least one footnote or endnote in your document before you can carry out the following: Make sure you are in Draft view.
Questions and answers From the References tab, Footnotes group, click on the dialog box launcher button. The footnote and Endnote dialog box will be displayey. Change the Footnotes settings under Location. Click on Apply.
Remove or change a footnote or endnote separator The Footnotes pane appears at the bottom of your document. Convert a footnote or an endnote To change a footnote to an endnote, Control + Click the footnote text and click Convert to Endnote. To change an endnote to a footnote, Control + Click the endnote text and click Convert to Footnote.
In order to update the cross-references, place your cursor in a footnote and select the text of all footnotes by pressing Ctrl A. Once the footnote text is selected, press F9.
You can use the following steps; Go to View tab. Select Draft view option. Go to References tab. Select Show Notes (Word document will be divided into two parts. Select Footnote Separator from the dropdown list. And now, there is the separator line that you want to change the length property.
