To change the formatting of the footnote numbers, select the Footnotes Reference Style. If you want to change the formatting of the footnote text at the bottom of the page, select the Footnote Text Style. Click Modify, and then change the formatting options (font, size, and so on).
Choose Format Styles and Formatting Click the Character Styles tab. Select Footnote Characters in the list, right-click it, and choose Modify.
At the bottom of a page, right-click the footnote text area, click Note Options, and then click Convert. Finally, click Convert all footnotes to endnotes. To convert one footnote to an endnote: At the bottom of the page, right-click the text of a footnote, and then click Convert to Endnote.
In your document, double-click the note reference mark. Word automatically scrolls to the footnote or endnote. Make the changes that you want.
Add an endnote Click where you want to add an endnote. Click References Insert Endnote. Word inserts a reference mark in the text and adds the endnote mark at the end of the document. Type the endnote text. Tip: To return to your place in your document, double-click the endnote mark.
If you want to change the formatting of the footnote text at the bottom of the page, select the Footnote Text Style. Click Modify, and then change the formatting options (font, size, and so on). For even more formatting options, click the Format button in the lower-left corner.
Change the number format of note reference marks On the Insert menu, click Footnote. Under Format, on the Number format pop-up menu, click the option that you want, and then click Apply.
To convert all footnotes to endnotes: At the bottom of a page, right-click the footnote text area, click Note Options, and then click Convert. Finally, click Convert all footnotes to endnotes.
Choose Format Styles and Formatting Click the Character Styles tab. Select Footnote Characters in the list, right-click it, and choose Modify.
Under the Insert tab, click on Footnotes. After you click that button, two numbers should appear: one number should appear in the main text, and the corresponding number should appear at the bottom of the page. Write your citation or additional information next to the number that appears in the footer.
