Rate of change problems can generally be approached using the formula R = D/T, or rate of change equals the distance traveled divided by the time it takes to do so.
If want to calculate a percentage increase in Excel (i.e. increase a number by a specified percentage), this can be done by simply multiply the number by 1 + the percentage increase.
Heres how to do it: Enter the numbers you want to multiply by 15% into a column. In an empty cell, enter the percentage of 15% (or 0.15), and then copy that number by pressing Ctrl-C. Select the range of cells A1:A5 (by dragging down the column).
Calculating Percentage Increase in Excel To give you an example, the cost of a household bill costs $100 in September, but $125 in October. To calculate this difference, you could use the excel formula =SUM(NEW-OLD)/OLD or, for this example, =SUM(125-100)/100 in Excel.
Calculating percentage increase work out the difference between the two numbers being compared. divide the increase by the original number and multiply the answer by 100. in summary: percentage increase = increase original number 100.
As an example, to add 10 to each cell, enter 10 (without the quotation marks here and throughout). To increase the values by a certain percentage, add 100 to the percentage and enter the number with the percent sign, such as 150% to add a 50 percent profit margin.

percentage increase = Increase Original Number 100. If the number you get is negative, like -0.10, then the percentage actually decreased rather than increased. Your household bill was $100 in September, but increased to $125 in October.
Percentage formula in excel: Percentages can be calculated using the formula =part/total. As an example, if youre trying to apply a discount, you would like to reduce a particular amount by 10%. The formula is: =Price*1-Discount %. (Consider the 1 as a substitute for 100%.)
