Using the From Text feature in Excel Open the Excel file that youre trying to change in terms of data formatting. Click the Data tab, then From Text. Select the CSV file that has the data clustered into one column. Select Delimited, then make sure the File Origin is Unicode UTF-8.
Approach Import module. Open csv file and read its data. Find column to be updated. Update value in the csv file using replace() function.
Use a text editor to edit your CSV file If you dont have a spreadsheet program, then you can edit CSV files using a text editor.
A CSV (Comma Separated Values) file is a special type of file that you can create or edit in Excel. Rather than storing information in columns, CSV files store information separated by commas.
Open the CSV file with Wordpad or Notepad++ and delete any empty lines at the end. Ensure that the file is encoded in UTF-8 without BOM.To do this in Notepad++, follow these instructions: Select Encoding in the Notepad++ toolbar. Select Convert to UTF-8 without BOM. Save the file, and try to import it again.
Check Delimited and, at File Origin, select 65001:Unicode (UTF-8) from the dropdown list. Click Next and, at Delimiters, choose the delimiter (field separator), be it space or comma. In the same panel choose the enclosure of the fields in Text qualifier. Hit Ok and youre done.
CSV (comma delimited) will not open correctly and the data within will be displayed incorrectly. This is due to regional Excel settings that have default list separator options where files will either be read with a comma separator or semicolon separator.
