To insert a footnote automatically in a Word document: Click on the point in the text where the footnote should appear. Select the References tab at the top and then click on Insert Footnote Type the text you want into the footnote that appears at the bottom of the page.
To change the formatting of the footnote numbers, select the Footnotes Reference Style. If you want to change the formatting of the footnote text at the bottom of the page, select the Footnote Text Style. Click Modify, and then change the formatting options (font, size, and so on).
How to write a footnote. Within the text, place a footnote signal directly after the passage that the footnote relates to. Footnote signals should come after punctuation and at the end of sentences when possible. The only exception is the dash (), in which case the footnote signal comes before, not after.
To make the footnote margin wider, simply select the footnote text by highlighting all of it with the cursor. Leave it selected, and then move your mouse up to the ruler bar the thin bar with numbers on it just underneath the Ribbon menu at the top.
How do I Create a Footnote or Endnote? Using footnotes or endnotes involves placing a superscript number at the end of a sentence with information (paraphrase, quotation or data) that you wish to cite. The superscript numbers should generally be placed at the end of the sentence to which they refer.
Leave no space between the superscript (note number) in the text and the word or mark of punctuation it follows. Place the superscript before a dash but after all other marks of punctuation. Indent the first line of each note 5-8 spaces (depending on indentation you are using for paragraphs in the text).
Set the Keep lines together property for the Footnote Text style: Right-click the footnote text and choose Style. Click the Modify button, and then click Format, Paragraph. Youll find the option on the Line and Page Breaks tab. Was this reply helpful?
Remove or change a footnote or endnote separator The Footnotes pane appears at the bottom of your document. You can edit the color or style of the separator by choosing options on the Home tab, or, to delete the separators, click Footnote Separator in the Footnotes list, and then select and delete the separator line.
First I suggest you click Expansion arrow of Footnotes group choose Below text for Footnotes Apply. Then chose the last line of main text Right click, select Paragraph In the Paragraph dialog box, click the Indents and Spacing tab, and make sure that Spacing After is set to zero.
The footnote usually includes the authors name, publication title, publication information, date of publication, and page number(s) if it is the first time the source is being used. For any additional usage, simply use the authors last name, publication title, and date of publication.
