What is the Seal? The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a school, district, or state in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation.
The State Seal of Biliteracy (SSB), marked by a gold seal on the diploma or transcript, recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing one or more languages in addition to English.
It encourages students to pursue biliteracy, honors the skills our students attain, and can be evidence of skills that are attractive to future employers and college admissions offices.
What are they? The four main diploma seals students can aim towards are college prep, career technology, honors/distinction, and civil engagement. On top of these diploma seals, there is a fine arts diploma seal and bi-literacy seal, as well as others.
