Today's project involves working with a piece of O1 tool steel. The workholding setup may not be ideal, but by taking it slow, it should be okay. The cutter used is a 3/8 inch four flute rougher in a corncob style. A tapered end mill is used to create relief on the cutting edge. The forming tool is being cut upside down to allow for the relief to be added. Once the shape and relief are complete, the forming tool is cut from the parent stock to create a ball shape. To support the tool, a support block was cut out of aluminum to prevent it from bouncing around.
