you can add the -w 0 option to the base64 command to change the behavior so that it no longer adds new lines.
Each Base64 digit represents exactly 6 bits of data. So, three 8-bits bytes of the input string/binary file (38 bits = 24 bits) can be represented by four 6-bit Base64 digits (46 = 24 bits).
Radix 64 or base 64 is a binary-to-text encoding system that is designed to allow binary data to be represented in ASCII string format. This is an educational project accepts a string from a user and Radix 64 encodes it.
You can use base64 to either encode or decode values. Its common to pipe something into it for encoding and echo will add a new line by default which will produce a base64 encoded value that includes the new line.
The final == sequence indicates that the last group contained only one byte, and = indicates that it contained two bytes.
The length of a Base64-encoded string is always a multiple of 4.
Because the ASCII standard defines the use of seven bits, Base64 only uses 6 bits (corresponding to 2^6 = 64 characters) to ensure the encoded data is printable and none of the special characters available in ASCII are used. The algorithms name Base64 comes from the use of these 64 ASCII characters.
The difference between Base64 and hex is really just how bytes are represented. Hex is another way of saying Base16. Hex will take two characters for each byte - Base64 takes 4 characters for every 3 bytes, so its more efficient than hex.
The base64 is a binary to a text encoding scheme that represents binary data in an ASCII string format. base64 is designed to carry data stored in binary format across the channels. It takes any form of data and transforms it into a long string of plain text.
The string representation can contain one or more line breaks, where a line break is defined as a carriage return character (U+000D) followed by a line feed character (U+000A).
