Generally, serif fonts are good for reading text in a book or other document. For medical presentations, though, most of the best fonts are sans serif. Finally, just on principle, dont use Times New Roman or Arial.
Stick with sans-serif fonts - As mentioned earlier, fonts without serifs, such as Arial, are much easier on the eyes.
Frutiger has been the NHS font since 1999, and has become recognised as the clean, simple, typeface which people associate with the NHS. The secondary font, Arial, should be used when Frutiger is not available.
Times New Roman The font is preferable because it is legible and clear. If you arent sure what the best font for your medical printed materials is, Times New Roman is always a great go-to.
Some journals specify fonts, commonly standard Times Roman, for their manuscripts. If the journal specifies something, follow that specification. Otherwise use a font that is easy to read.
An inpatient discharge is the release of a patient who was formally admitted into a hospital for treatment and/or care and who stayed for a minimum of one night (see definition for hospital inpatient discharges below).
Arial. As my TVI once explained, Arial is one of the best fonts for vision impairment because every letter is simple and looks different from the other letters, and it also looks fantastic in bold type.
Standard title font should be Arial, size 12, bold. Standard content font should be Arial, size 11. Italics, underlined, and bolded fonts should be used sparingly. Header fonts may be bolded to identify sub-headings in lengthy documents.
We believe that Helvetica would be the most suitable font style for your medical business. Either that, or you can opt for other simple sans-serif style fonts, such as Verdana, Geneva, or Calibri. But above all, make sure that your font is easily legible and appealing.
Only Frutiger and Arial fonts should be used for NHS communications. No other typefaces should be used even if your NHS communications are aimed at a specific target audience (e.g. children).
