Data Transmission Media In radio transmission, electromagnetic power from a radio transmitter is coupled by the transmitter antenna into air or free space. In radio reception, electromagnetic radio waves are intercepted by a receiving antenna and coupled into a receiver for detection.
Station identification (ident, network ID or channel ID or bumper) is the practice of radio and television stations and networks identifying themselves on-air, typically by means of a call sign or brand name (sometimes known, particularly in the United States, as a sounder or stinger, more generally as a station or

A program is transmitted by adding it to a radio wave called a carrier. This process is called modulation. Sometimes a radio program is added to the carrier in such a way that the program signal causes fluctuations in the carriers frequency. This is called frequency modulation (FM).
The basic principle is simple. At one end, a transmitter encodes or modulates messages by varying the amplitude or frequency of the wave a bit like Morse code. At the other, a receiver tuned to the same wavelength picks up the signal and decodes it back to the desired form: sounds, images, data, etc.
Cell phones use antennae to transmit and receive radio waves that carry binary information. Every cell tower presides over an area of land, where it receives and transmits radio waves. When a text message is written, it is transmitted as binary code using a particular frequency of radio waves specific to that user.
