hello and welcome to week 12 which is data preparation in Excel and R so there are two steps in this demonstration the first will be how to manage data in Excel and that will be captured mostly in this PDF which is represented on the screen now and the second portion is in R and that is what this video will capture mostly for the portion in Excel I recommend reviewing these slides the PDF before reviewing this video so what we cover today is modifying data that is managing data in Excel and are creating dummy variables from nominal data and recoating data that is for example reverse coding likert-type data and rescaling likert-type data and finally how to create composite scores or indexes from those data which we can then use in a future analyses so there are several files used in this demo as you will have known from reading this PDF beforehand theres the survey instrument which is the Tims 2015 teacher questionnaire the mock data from those questions these are based on 30 teachers
