- Welcome back! Its Tuesday, lets do this. (rock music) Alright, todays topic is dynamic range, shooting in LOG, and picture profiles. Whats the best- (piano music) for you, and whats going to give you the best picture and the best settings based on the camera that you have? So lets throw two minutes on the clock, lets go. So what is a picture profile? Now all cameras ship at these predetermined picture styles, right? So if youre shooting landscape, its saying, Hey, this is the best settings for landscape. This is the best for portraits, so on and so forth. Those picture profiles have different settings within them that capture images differently. Now, whats really popular, Im sure youve heard of it, is shooting your footage in a flat profile, something called LOG. I shoot Canon, so they call it C-Log. What does that mean? Well, at first sight, it looks like this, and it doesnt look the best. You might say, Ugh, theres no contrast, no saturation, its like gray, and

Colour images can be transformed to grayscale using skimage. color. rgb2gray() or, in many cases, be read as grayscale directly by passing the argument mode=L to iio. imread() .
The term contrast refers to the amount of color or grayscale differentiation that exists between various image features in both analog and digital images. Images having a higher contrast level generally display a greater degree of color or grayscale variation than those of lower contrast.
Explanation: The exponent in Power-law is called gamma and the process used to correct the response of Power-law transformation is called Gamma Correction.
Brightness increases the overall lightness of the imagefor example, making dark colors lighter and light colors whiterwhile contrast adjusts the difference between the darkest and lightest colors. Below is an example of adjustments made to the brightness and contrast of an image.
The brightness of images can be changed using the adjustgamma function in skimage, which uses a method called gamma correlation. For any given image, the pixel values are first normalized between 0 1 and then multiplied by a specified gamma value. The resulting pixel values are scaled back to the range 0-255.
Contrast is defined as the difference between the highest and lowest intensity value of the image. So you can easily calculate it from the respective histogram. Example: If you have a plain white image, the lowest and highest value are both 255, thus the contrast is 255-255=0.
Contrast is the difference between the maximum and minimum pixel intensity of an image. Formula: Contrast = maximum pixel intensity - minimum pixel intensity.
Gamma correction can be used to control the overall brightness of an image. It can be used with images that are found to be either bleached out or too dark [12]. Expansion and compression of pixel intensity values are desired for darker and faded images [51].
Brightness correction with OpenCV Raise gamma to make it brighter, and lower it to make it darker.
Steps Import the required library OpenCV. Read the input image using cv2. Define alpha (it controls contrast) and beta (it controls brightness) and call convertScaleAbs() function to change the contrast and brightness of the image. Display the contrast and brightness adjusted image.
