An id on a tag assigns an identifier to the style. The identifier must be unique across the page.
The id attribute is used to point to a specific style declaration in a style sheet. It is also used by JavaScript to access and manipulate the element with the specific id. The syntax for id is: write a hash character (#), followed by an id name. Then, define the CSS properties within curly braces {}.
The id selector uses the id attribute of an HTML element to select a specific element. The id of an element is unique within a page, so the id selector is used to select one unique element! To select an element with a specific id, write a hash (#) character, followed by the id of the element.
In HTML 4, ID values must begin with a letter, which can then be followed only by letters, digits, hyphens, underscores, colons and periods. As of HTML5, the only restrictions on the value of an ID are: must be unique in the document. must not contain any space characters. must contain at least one character.
The most basic way that you can interact with an HTML element using JavaScript is by selecting an HTML element. There are two methods available in JavaScript to do this - the querySelector method and the querySelectorAll method. Both of these methods are contained in the document object that we referenced earlier.
The easiest way to modify the content of an HTML element is by using the innerHTML property.Example explained: The HTML document above contains a element with id=p1 We use the HTML DOM to get the element with id=p1 A JavaScript changes the content ( innerHTML ) of that element to New text!
To convert an ID selector to a class selector Select the ID selector you want to convert. Press Alt+Insert. From the pop-up menu select Convert ID Selector To Class Selector.
Rules for Using the ID Attribute The ID must start with a letter (a-z or A-Z). All subsequent characters can be letters, numbers (0-9), hyphens (-), underscores (), colons (:), and periods (.). Each ID must be unique within the document.
The id attribute specifies a unique id for an HTML element (the value must be unique within the HTML document). The id attribute is most used to point to a style in a style sheet, and by JavaScript (via the HTML DOM) to manipulate the element with the specific id.
Setting the style of an HTML element, can be done with the style attribute. The property is a CSS property. The value is a CSS value.
