sometimes when youre printing out stuff in Excel you want to add things to the top of the page or to the bottom of the page like this for example on this report we have this note that says this monthly sales were sales report is still in the review and we have a form number and down here it says last update and it lists the date when we last updated that document this up here this is called a header and this is called a footer now these are separate from the page titles right here this is the page title which prints out on every page but this text here this prints out on every page and is not related to the page type okay so how do we place these headers and footers in our documents well what you need to do is go to the page setup menu go to page layout tab and right here it says page setup and inside the page setup were gonna open the page setup menu or the page setup drop-down by clicking this little arrow and try and go here in the lower right corner so Im gonna click that and I

Default Headers and Footers in Excel On the Insert tab, in the Text group, click Header Footer. Do one of the following: To add a footer, click Footer, and then type the text that you want in the footer. Note:
Heres how: On the Insert tab, in the Text group, click Header Footer. This will display the worksheet in Page Layout view and get the Design tab to appear. On the Design tab, in the Header Footer group, click the Header or Footer button, and select the built-in header or footer of your choosing.
The default left and right margin values are . 7 inches, unless you change them as described in other issues of ExcelTips.
Change the header and footer margin Click VIEW Ruler. Double-click the header or footer area. Press CTRL+A. On the ruler, drag the right indent marker.
On the Page Layout tab of the ribbon, in the Page Setup group, click Margins Custom Margins Set Top, Header, Bottom and Footer to 0, then click OK.
On the status bar, click the Page Layout View button. Select the header or footer text you want to change. On the Home tab in the Font group, set the formatting options that you want to apply to the header / footer. When youre done, click the Normal view button on the status bar.
By clicking Page Layout, Margins and then Custom Margins, youre presented with the option to change margins. Reducing the Footer field places the bottom of the footer lower on the page, and increasing the Bottom field allows more space for the footer text. You may need to experiment for optimal results.
To specify custom page margins, click Custom Margins and thenin the Top, Bottom, Left, and Right boxesenter the margin sizes that you want. To set header or footer margins, click Custom Margins, and then enter a new margin size in the Header or Footer box.
